Awesome Stay— Hyatt Place Anchorage Midtown

I stayed at the Hyatt Place Anchorage— Midtown twice: for two nights before going to Utqiagvik and for 3 nights after Utqiagvik. My stays were very similar both times (except for the fact I was upgraded into a suite on my first stay), so I’ll just compile it all into one review.

First of all,  this hotel is expensive for what you get. I used Category 1-4 World of Hyatt free certificates and points for both of my stays, but cash rates here were pushing $500 per night for my dates. That’s a ridiculous sum for a hotel next to an Office Depot.

The staff here is very nice. After checking out I spent a bit of time working in the lobby. Turns out I left my passport in the room, and the staff found me and gave it back to me. I hid that passport well, so that’s a testament both to their excellent customer service  and thoroughness when cleaning.

The biggest perk of this hotel, though, has to be the proximity to the airport. It’s only about 20 minutes away, and the free shuttle means you don’t have to brace the often long Uber waits during an Anchorage summer.

If you have a car or just have a quick overnight layover in Anchorage this is a great place to stay (if competitively priced), but otherwise I think I’ll stay in downtown Anchorage next time, closer to the crab grilled cheese.
